“People will not look forward to posterity, who never look backward to their ancestors.”

Welcome to the Irish American Bar Association of New York

The Irish American Bar Association of New York exists to foster connections, synergies and friendship among the men and women of the New York bar who are proud of their Irish heritage or who are simply fans of Irish culture. We put on social, cultural and educational events to provide opportunities for our members to meet and deepen their relationships. We pay special attention to our younger members, whether they be recently arrived from Ireland, or law students or recent law graduates from the US, so that we may act as a source of support and advice in helping them establish their careers. Please join us and help us to foster and harness the resources and camaraderie of the Irish and Irish American legal community of New York.

What we do

Professional Networking

In addition to our annual Holiday Party, we host monthly/bi-monthly after-work networking events for members, twice-yearly post-bar exam themed evenings to give our newer members a chance to meet seasoned practitioners.

Cultural Events

Our cultural events include our Bloomsday event (including a first amendment guest speaker), our spring Oscar Wilde walk, and our Wine Geese & Wild Goose Awards where we honor members of the legal community for their non-legal pursuits.

Education and Community Engagement

We provide Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits, partner with law firms and law schools to host cultural events, and provide guidance to Irish-educated lawyers seeking to practice law in New York, and for U.S. qualified lawyers seeking to practice in Ireland.
